Extended Local Welfare Assistance in Response to Covid-19.
We recognise that as a result of Covid-19 there will be more people in financial hardship. This may be due to changes in employment, claiming UC for the first time, and other circumstances beyond their control. The Local Welfare Assistance Scheme is here to help.
If you are experiencing financial hardship as a direct result of Covid-19 please selected the Covid-19 option below.
If you are experiencing financial hardship that is not the result of Covid-19 please read the information below and select the appropraite option.
The LWA replaces the Crisis Loan and Community Care Grant elements of the DWP Social Fund. It’s a discretionary scheme for people with no alternative support or assistance available to meet their need.
The DWP will still be administrating the Social Fund statutory payments, which are:
- Surestart Maternity Grants
- Funeral Payments
- Cold Weather Payments
- Winter Fuel payments
- Budgeting Loans
- Alignment Payments
